Maliwal presents plan for more one-stop centres for victims of sexual harassment
In order to set up more single window systems to assist the victims of sexual harassment cases, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) head, Swati Maliwal, has submitted a plan to the Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi on Friday.
“Currently, we have a few one-step facilitation centres for rape victims in the Capital, therefore, to improve the situation DCW head met Maneka Gandhi and raised concerns over lack of such centres,” a statement of the commission reads. The discussion centred around setting up more one-stop centres in Delhi to ensure proper registration of cases related to sexual violence, medical examination, collection of samples, treatment, and counselling of sexual assault victims. The WCD minister expressed concerns about increasing child rapes and offered to help and promised setting up of more one-stop facilitation centres in Delhi.
“Such centres will have two rooms where a woman can walk in, get an FIR registered and have her statement recorded. She can also seek psycho-social counselling from the Delhi Commission of Women (DCW). Further, the hospital will facilitate admission, if need be, for treatment or find her a shelter home to stay in if she has problems returning home,” Maliwal said.
