The theme of the fair this year is Women Entrepreneurs. Delhi being the focus state of the fair is showcasing distinctive examples of women empowerment and flourishing entrepreneurial spirit in the gender at its pavilion inaugurated by Najeeb Jung, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Delhi Tourism’s stalls of Dastkar Nature Bazar at the Delhi pavilion demonstrated the unstoppable and unwavering entrepreneurial spirit in women. Laila Tyabji, the chairperson of Dastkar NGO mentioned that the work environment for women in the country has become better. There is more acceptability and hence easier for them to bake into different industries or professions. She informs, ‘We are working for more than 30 years now and there are many stories worth sharing’.
‘Many women had earlier worked at Bhati mines and were now imparted training to pursue their artistic interests. They are taught embroidery on Silk and Khadi handlooms as an entrepreneurial opportunity to grow,’ says one of the representative at the stall. Women can be seen practicing Sindhi embroidery and showcasing handicraft products at these stalls.
