Major congestions across national Capital hit traffic

The Republic Day arrangements are over and the US President’s cavalcade is gone but the city is not done with its never-ending traffic snarls. Massive congestions were reported from almost all districts in the national Capital in the afternoon and evening hours on Thursday. The worst of them were witnessed in south Delhi.

According to the data obtained from traffic control room, the Ring Road stretch near Lajpat Nagar and Moolchand was severely clogged at around 2 pm. Within two hours, the tailbacks on both carriageways had stretched themselves till Dhaula Kuan and Maharani Bagh (Ashram Chowk).

In central Delhi, the road from Azad Market to Tis Hazari court was severely hit between 2.20 pm and 3.10 pm. And by 4.30 pm, areas around Hasrat Nizamuddin, Sarai Kale Khan and Akshardham temple in east Delhi witnessed a bumper-to-bumper situation.

It wasn’t a joyride for commuters moving between DND flyway and south-east Delhi as well. In that route, areas that witnessed severe traffic snarls in the evening including Ashram Chowk, New Friends Colony, Sunlight Colony and Modi Mill Flyover.

At around 5 pm, the road between Indira Gandhi Airport and Dhaula Kuan witnessed long tailbacks. Around this time, heavy traffic was also reported at the Ring Road stretch from Rajouri Garden to Dhaula Kuan.

The situation was turned worse by several bus breakdowns across the city.
