A domestic help and two of her associates were arrested for killing a retired Income Tax official during a robbery in action at her residence in Rohini in outer Delhi, police said.
‘Nandini, the housemaid, along with her two associates, Arvind and Rajesh, were arrested recently from different places, while two other people-Hardwari and vicky-are still absconding,’ said B S Jaiswal, deputy commissioner of police [Outer].
‘All the accused are first time offenders and had committed the crime to lead a better life after looting valuables from the house,’ said Jaiswal. On 12 September, Gurjeet Kaur, a retired Income Tax official, was found murdered at her residence at Sector 8 in Rohini. She was living alone.
During investigation, police found that Kaur’s maid Nandini probably conspired with her associates and killed her. Kaur had hired Nandini just two weeks ago.
After days of investigation, police nabbed two accused-Rajesh and Arvind-a week ago. After their interrogation, they managed to arrest Nandini on Monday, police said.
During interrogation, Nandini told police that she was under the impression that a lot of cash and jewellery was available in the house. First she planned to commit the theft alone but as Kaur used to keep her valuables locked, she decided to take the help of Arvind, Rajesh, Hardwari and Vicky. Nandini assured them of anonymity and convinced them that there was no chance of apprehension after committing the crime. To commit the robbery, Nandini approached Kaur and showed her interest to buy an old unused sofa in the house. Nandini told Kaur that her husband wanted to see the sofa before buying it.
On 11, she brought her associate Hardwari and introduced him as her husband. Hardwari, on the pretext of seeing the sofa, observed the house from the point of view of feasibility of committing the crime. He then told Kaur that he will come the next day, with some other people, to pick up the sofa.
Next day, Nandini entered the colony along with Hardwari, Arvind, Rajesh and Vicky. The unsuspecting Kaur opened the door and all five entered the house. They then caught hold of Kaur and tied her with a rope.
Thereafter, they ransacked the house and took all the valuables and cash. Then they strangled Kaur and fled to Bareilly, then Moradabad, and distributed the booty among themselves.
