Mahinder Nagpal writes to home minister over differences between civic agencies
In a letter written to Union home minister, the leader of house in North Delhi Municipal Corporation Mahinder Nagpal has demanded Sushil Kumar Shinde’s intervention to settle the disputes of warring civic agencies in the city.
‘The civic agencies in the city pass the buck on one another leaving the residents and commuters high and dry due to waterlogging and problems of poor sanitation. Despite the direction of Delhi high court, the city government did nothing for effective coordination among various agencies but became part of the blame game,’ said Nagpal.
He further demanded that the Union home ministry is administrator of the city so must try to come up with a solution.
‘Apart from the three corporations and Public Works Department (PWD) several underpasses of railway and national highway authority of India (NHAI) also responsible for waterlogging in the city,’ he added claiming that the corporations do their work but their jurisdiction is very limited.
‘The city desperately needs a coordination body which can monitor general cleanliness and verify the claims of various civic agencies in the city,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, chairman of standing committee in South DMC. He further blamed PWD and Flood Department of Delhi government for presenting wrong facts.
The leaders also expressed their concerns over the upcoming festival season in the city which could further increase the problem of sanitation. ‘
A coordinated effort is necessary to fight the menace of mosquito borne diseases and sanitation related diseases in the city,’ added Gehlot.
