Mah, Mumbai return to winning ways

Maharashtra outclassed their opponents with some good bowling but made a heavy weather of the modest 124-run target as they reached there with just two balls to spare. Electing to bat, Saurashtra were bundled out for a meagre score of 123. Sheldon Jackson made a 31-ball 30 while skipper Jaydev Shah made 22. Kuldip Raval, who was dropped twice, chipped in with a 13-ball 20.

Chasing the small target, the Ranji Trophy finalists started well but kept losing wickets at regular intervals.Skipper Jadhav kept fighting from one end and hit four fours and a six in his fighting knock. Opener Harshad Khadiwale and Ankit Bawne contributed with 23 and 22, respectively. Saurashtra left-arm spinner Arpit Vasavda scalped three wickets and conceding 22 runs. Jaydev Unadkat, Dharmendra Jadeja and Abhishek Bhat got a wicket apiece.

Meanwhile, Mumbai bounced back after suffering a defeat in their opening game when they thrashed Gujarat by six wickets with nine balls to spare  Monday. The hosts outclassed Gujarat with some tidy bowling and batting effort on a bouncy, but slow pitch.

Opting to field, Mumbai bowlers, led by captain Zaheer Khan, restricted Gujarat to a paltry score of 126 for 9 and then rode on wicketkeeper-batsman Aditya Tare’s attacking knock of 55 off 46 balls to emerge easy winners.

Zaheer dismissed rival captain Parthiv Patel off the fifth ball of the match and Gujarat struggled thereafter to pile on a challenging total. Zaheer took 2/14 P Dhake, Pravin Thambe and Suryakumar Yadav also grabbed two wickets apiece.
