In the afternoon, the government tabled the bill in the Rajya Sabha to speed up the proposed anti-corruption law to get an ombudsman who will be empowered to investigate corruption charges against any elected representative and bureaucrat. Minister of state V Narayansamy, along with the other MPs after paying homage to the martyrs of 2001 Parliament attack, introduced the redrafted Lokpal Bill but Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders disrupted the process raising the issue of price hike.
The Samajwadi Party leaders stressed that they will support a no-confidence motion proposed against the government on Telangana, rather then supporting the Lokpal Bill. SP leader Naresh Agarwal demanded that the debate over price rise should be considered before the fate of the Lokpal Bill.
Many feel that it was a pre-planned ploy between the Congress and the SP to create “intentional” uproar to delay the process of clearing the bill.
