Local authority, UP MLAs to blame for Kairana mass exodus: BJP report

Update: 2016-06-18 23:13 GMT
The political blame-game persists over the current law and order situation in the poll-bound Uttar Pradesh, with the nine-member BJP fact-finding team’s report on the migration of Hindu families from Kairana in Shamli confirmed that ‘fear’ is the main reason of the ‘mass exodus’.

After the Mathura violence, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) once again targeted  incumbent Samajwadi Party on the alleged ‘Hindu Exodus’ issue. The report by BJP fact-finding team, led by MP Hukum Singh said that both, local authority and state government legislators are responsible for the mass exodus.

The probe team submitted the report to the government on Thursday. Sources said, the report mentioned that since last five years, many Hindu families have migrated from Kairana town due to extortion. They have been sought money by the SP legislators and the refusal could be also ended with murder.

Sources also said, in that report the saffron party also asked Akhilesh Yadav, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, for providing the exact numbers of migrated Hindu families. The report claimed that only Muslim families have registered documents pertain to their properties in Kairana town. The state government has also been asked to release the detail information, so that the properties of Hindu families could be assessed.

Meanwhile, the BJP MLA of Sardhana (UP) and alleged kingpin of Muzaffarnagar riots Sangeet Som was stopped to enter Kairana on Friday by local intelligence as section 144 of the Indian Penal Code has been imposed by the magistrate who prohibits a gathering of more than 10 people in an area since Thursday. “Ensure the return of those who fled Kairana in 15 days,” Som gave an ultimatum to the Akhilesh Government on Friday.

A delegation led by BJP state in-charge of UP Keshav Prasad Maurya also submitted a memorandum to UP Governor Ram Naik on Friday afternoon. The delegation also asked for a CBI inquiry on the migration issue of Kairana.

However, a committee was formed by the local administration to probe the claims by BJP of a ‘Hindu exodus’ from Kairana town. The team submitted its report to the state government on Thursday. According to the report, only three people left Kairana due to incidents of extortion, 343 other families had shifted for other reasons. The report also rejected the contention that the existing migration was due to law and order problems.

Hitting back at Som, SP spokesman and senior cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav trashed charges of ‘exodus’ and accused the saffron party of vitiating the communal atmosphere in UP for political gains with 2017 Assembly polls in mind.

Yadav proposed that a team of five ‘apolitical persons’ visit Kairana to probe the reality. “We suggest Pramod Krishnam, Swami Kalyan, Naraina Giri, Swami Chinmayanand and Swamy Chakrapani to go and see the reality and give report,” he told reporters in Lucknow.
