LG misused position to restore ration shop’s license: AAP

Two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators on Thursday accused Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung of “misusing” his position and supporting the ration mafia in Delhi. They also sought a committee to probe the whole matter.

AAP alleged that the LG had ordered to restore the license of a food shop that was terminated by an inquiry committee appointed by the Delhi food and civil supply department of the Delhi government after it was found guilty.

Referring to a case wherein Jung allegedly bypassed rules to restore the suspended license of a ration shop holder, Delhi legislator from Burari Assembly constituency Sanjeev Jha said Jung had no authority in the matter. He claimed the shopkeeper paid Rs 12 lakh to get the license restored. “The shopowner concerned used to sell poor quality ration. After the locals complained, the shop’s license was cancelled after I intervened. But the shop-owner approached the LG and his license was restored. It is a clear case of corruption on part of the LG,” Jha said.

He told the Assembly that the shop-owner now openly claims that he has paid Rs 12 lakh to get back his license. AAP MLA demanded to setup a panel to inquire the matter. Meanwhile, other MLAs too joined the discussion on the issue and demanded to form a special committee to look into the matter. Hence Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel agreed to set up a nine members’ prove panel and asked to furnish its fact-finding report by next Assembly session. Ironically, the discussion on a group of MLAs used defamatory remark against LG Najeeb Jung.
