Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday warned young two-wheeler riders against indulging in irresponsible riding on the occasion of Shab-e-Baraat on Friday or else they would have to face serious consequences.

Having learnt that last year as many as 89 bikers were caught red-handed on Shab-e-Baraat for violating the law and behaving irresponsibly on major roads in the capital, the Delhi Police is prepared to curb any kind of hooliganism this time. To maintain the law and order situation, they have come up  with a strong deployment of several police teams at 60-65 pickets and over 50 PCR vans in the New Delhi district.

On the pious night of the Islamic calender, Muslims across the world on Shab-e-Baraat seek Allah’s blessings for the year ahead, pray for the departed souls of their beloved and seek forgiveness for their sins. ‘Last year, the police caught 89 bikers performing dangerous stunts. A total of 89 motorcycles were impounded by the police,’  said SBS Tyagi (DCP) New Delhi, District.

While talking to Millennium Post, Tyagi said: ‘This year we are fully prepared to curb any kind of hooliganism on the occasion. We are in contact with many Imams of mosques who will mark their presence with the teams to help the police maintain the law and order situation.’  Taking note of the ‘growing menace’ of two-wheeler riders on the occasion, Jung said: ‘Irrespective of age, the police have been instructed to strictly control miscreants. Bikers are warned that any misbehaviour will be dealt with a heavy hand and the sole responsibility and repercussions will rest with them,’ he added.
