A day after the Delhi High Court granted bail to jailed former BJP President Bangaru Laxman in a case against him for taking bribe in a fictitious defence deal, he furnished the bail bond before a trial court on Friday. 72-year-old Bangaru was taken into custody on April 27 to serve a four-year imprisonment awarded by a special CBI court for taking Rs one lakh as bribe from a group of undercover journalists in 2001 to fix a fictitious defence deal to supply some equipment to Indian Army.

Bangaru’s counsel furnished a personal and surety bail bond of Rs 50,000 each before the Special CBI Judge Kanwaljeet Arora.

‘The bail bond is accepted. In terms of the Delhi High Court order, he is released on bail ,’ the court said.
