In a bid to counter the protest march carried out by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students along with academia on Thursday in the Capital, hundreds of lawyers marched from the Patiala House Courts complex to India Gate on Friday and demanded action against certain JNU students whom they hail as “traitors”.

The lawyers’ protest march was organised by the coordination committee of all district court Bar Associations in Delhi. The lawyers, mostly from Patiala House and several other district courts, marched vigorously around the India Gate circle, shouting slogans and waving the Tricolour in presence of heavy police security. The demonstration was led by Vikram Chauhan and Yashpal Singh, the duo allegedly involved in an attack on journalists, students and teachers inside the court complex ahead of scheduled court proceeding in the case of Kanhaiya Kumar. Besides the two, there were several other lawyers those were caught on camera leading blatant assaults on journalists, JNU students and teachers in the court premises on Monday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police on Friday issued fresh notices to three lawyers who despite being summoned for two consecutive days, did not turn up before the investigators in connection with the attack on journalists, students and teachers of JNU in Patiala House Courts on February 15.
