Law has taken its course: CM

Update: 2013-02-11 01:06 GMT
Law of the country has taken its course in the 2001 Parliament attack case, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said reacting to execution of convict Mohammed Afzal Guru on Sunday.

The Delhi Government in May 2010 had cleared Guru’s mercy petition file endorsing capital punishment to him. ‘The law of the country has taken its course,’ Dikshit said.

The MHA had sought opinion of the Delhi Government as the comments of the government of the state where the crime has been committed are asked before deciding a mercy petition.

The Delhi government was sitting on the file for nearly four years before clearing it on 19 May 2010.

The mercy plea of 43-year-old Guru, who was sentenced to death in 2002 by a special court which was later upheld by the Supreme Court in 2005, was rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee on 3 February.
