The robber, who allegedly looted a dry-fruit wholesale commission agent of around Rs 2.5 crore in North Delhi’s Tilak Bazar near Lahori Gate on December 9, has been arrested by special cell of Delhi Police.
The accused turned out to be the former kingpin of an illegal betting racket in East Delhi’s Nand Nagri.
The accused, identified as Sabir (alias Ustaad), was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 upon his arrest. “Based on a tip off, the police laid a trap near ISBT Anand Vihar on April 16. He arrived in a UP Roadways Bus, and got down near the Entry Gate of the ISBT. He was identified and arrested after a scuffle,” said Rajiv Ranjan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
In the incident reported on December 9 last year, Gaurav Rathi, a dry-fruits wholesale commission agent at Tilak Bazar, along with his employees were present at his shop when around 6 pm, 4 armed robbers entered into the shop premises and took them hostage and robbed them.
