The newly-appointed Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi, Anil Baijal, on Sunday visited various South Delhi areas for a reality-check of cleanliness status and civic authorities’ initiatives in this direction.
The inspection included visit to BRT corridor, Press Enclave Road, Aurobindo Marg to Ring Road, (Safdarjung Hospital to RK Puram areas) and Outer Ring Road (at Munirka). He was accompanied by Puneet Goyal, Commissioner SDMC, Uday Pratap Singh, Vice-Chairman, DDA, along with other senior bureaucrats.
Baijal stressed that all agencies concerned should improve the condition of public parks so that all residents, especially children are able to use them. He also emphasised on putting in place an implementable ‘Parking Policy’ at the earliest, with active participation of all stakeholders like the Municipal Corporations, DDA, Transport Department, PWD and Delhi Police.
PWD has also been asked to beautify the area and open spaces under flyovers. Commissioner, South MCD, has been assigned to be the Nodal Officer in his jurisdiction for dealing with all cleanliness and waste disposal related issues.
He also directed that the related agencies will ensure complete removal of debris from public spaces before releasing payment to the contractors of civil works. This should be a condition of all the contracts.
In case contractors do not remove the solid waste, the same would be removed at his risk and cost.
Baijal also chaired a meeting at DC, South MCD office at Green Park, immediately with officers of various departments, where he emphasised on proper solid waste management and removal of debris from pavements, public spaces.
He also emphasised on providing our children with proper public spaces in the city by making the parks free from garbage, parked vehicles, beautification of areas under the flyovers and unclogging the U-turns.
