‘There are lots of lies and rumours floating around about me’ said Trinamool MP Kunal Ghosh on his way to being questioned by the Bidhan Nagar Police Commissionerate in Salt Lake on Monday evening. After about two hours of grilling, it was known that there were anomalies in the statement of Ghosh and main accused Sudipto Sen, which the police would investigate further.
Ghosh was summoned by the DC(DD), Arnab Ghosh and his statement recorded. Meanwhile, the TMC Industries Minister Partha Chatterjee accused that the CPIM Government funded its film festivals using chit fund money. ‘Who funded the 2010 film festival in the city?Was it the Saradha group’quipped Chatterjee.
Chatterjee also announced a series of public meetings hinged on the chit fund scam to be addressed by the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the next few days.
Two first information reports (FIRs) have been filed against Ghosh based on complaints by employees of media outfits run by the group for non-payment of salaries and for not depositing provident fund and tax deducted at source (TDS) with authorities.
The media units were shut down by Sen in March and April.The state government has promised to bring out a tough bill on Tuesday to put a rein on the chit fund business. Saradha Group boss Sudipta Sen, arrested for being the alleged kingpin of the chit fund scam, was grilled by Assam Police in the cases of fraud and forgery lodged against him in the state.
