KP comeback washed out, NZ win series

Kevin Pietersen’s return to England duty saw him fail to take any part in a washed-out Twenty20 match at The Oval, giving New Zealand 1-0 series win.

Only two balls had been bowled on Thursday, with England 2/1, when rain stopped play after Michael Lumb was caught at second slip by Brendon McCullum off Mitchell McClenaghan.

But rain prevented all further attempts at re-start. The no-result, in what was the final match of their tour, gave New Zealand the two-match series 1-0 after the five-run win at The Oval on Tuesday. The also won the ODI series 2-1. However, England took the preceding Test series 2-0.

Pietersen was included in the side for the first time following a knee injury which forced his early exit from the tour of New Zealand in March.
