Zakaria Street murder case: Rs 92,000, 6 gem stones found

Kolkata: The Detective department of Kolkata Police on Friday recovered six stones and cash amounting to Rs 92,000 from Ekbalpore police station area. The articles were looted from the shop of Jorasanko jewellery businessman Mohammad Selim following his murder on Monday night. The recovery was made pursuing the interrogation of the accused Md. Ashar Firdausi who was arrested on Thursday from his Ekbalpore residence. The accused was produced at Bankshal Court on Friday and was remanded to police custody till November 6. Police sources said that after his arrest on Thursday, he was interrogated by the team of homicide wing and Firdausi led them to a place near his residence where he had concealed a part of the stolen booty. The articles were kept in a plastic packet. 46 pieces of Indian currency notes with denominations of Rs 2,000 each totaling Rs 92,000 were seized along with 6 pieces of gems that were of a reasonable value. The police will further interrogate the accused to find who had partnered him in the murder for gain. The accused was desperate for money to make fresh purchases for his shop and to sponsor his visits to the Red Light area. He knew Salim had enough cash with him and ran a successful business.
