Kolkata: A youth reportedly committed suicide a day after his girlfriend committed suicide at Mirpur in Baruipur of South 24-Parganas.
According to sources, Ramprasad Purkait was a student of second year English Honours in a college in Kolkata. There he met a woman identified as Sulata Sardar. Both of them became close and got involved in a relationship. Both of them informed their families about their relationship, which was accepted by both the families.
It was also decided that they will get married in future. Recently Sardar's family was informed by someone that Purkait is a patient blood cancer. Sardar was being forced to discontinue the relationship with Purkait. As she could not bear the situation, Sardar committed suicide by hanging from ceiling fan using a piece of cloth on Thursday.
Purkait came to know about the incident on Friday morning and got depressed. In the evening when his parents were out of the house he committed suicide by hanging.
Baruipur police station was informed as soon as the family members got informed about the situation. Police recovered the body and sent it for autopsy examination. Later Purkait's parents told the police that he was not suffering from blood cancer. Based on the information, police are trying to know who told Sardar's family members about the Purkait had blood cancer. Till Sunday night no one has been arrested.
