Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Limited has substantially completed the tunneling work under the Brabourne Road flyover in a record time of only three days. With completion of the task, as planned, vehicles were allowed to ply on the flyover and the road under it from Tuesday morning.
The stretch remained closed since Friday midnight. There were many volunteers on the flyover to ensure smooth plying of vehicles at a restricted speed on the flyover till Tuesday evening as a precautionary measure. Two buildings — one on adjacent Raja Woodmount Street and the other on Strand Road — were evacuated during the tunneling work from Saturday to Monday. The move was taken to ensure safety of the people. Residents of both the buildings have been brought back on Wednesday and the businessmen were also allowed to open their shops.
The Kolkata Traffic Police, Kolkata Municipal Corporation along with the state fire and emergency services department helped the KMRCL in carrying out the work properly. The police ensured smooth flow of traffic when the crucial Brabourne Road flyover remained shut.
