Trams take up duty to create awareness on need to save fuel

Kolkata: The tram, which stands as an icon for the city of joy, is now being engaged to create awareness among people about the necessity of conserving fuel.
The move of engaging tram as a means to reach out to the city dwellers and those pouring into the city from different parts of the state for different work, has been appreciated by the people from all walks of life.
The campaign is a part of the "Saksham – Sanrakshan Khamta Mahotsav" observed by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Oil India Limited (OIL) and Engineers India Limited (EIL).
The campaign has continued for around three days, during which trams with posters carrying different messages moved along different routes in the city.
The exterior of the trams were covered with posters carrying messages like "Conserve Fuel, Save Fuel". People watched the trams with curiosity when they passed through different areas in the city.
A seminar was also held in this connection, which is also a part of the Oil and Gas Conservation Month.
RP Mehrotra, Chief General Manager of EIL, SK Das, General Manager of ONGC, R Nambiar, General Manager, IOCL and BK Chetri, Deputy General Manager of OIL, were present in the seminar in which the different solutions and techniques for fuel conservation were discussed.
Students from different schools and colleges also participated in the event. Apart from the students, people from different walks of life were involved in the programme.
Even farmers from surrounding districts were also involved in it, considering that they can also play a major role in saving fuel. Housewives also took part in the seminar.
The participants have gathered practical knowledge, which they will again disseminate among others to create awareness among more people.
