It may be recalled that within a few months after coming to power in 2011, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had created Jhargram Police district in West Midnapore. The setting up of the new police district on one had helped in reducing the rate of crime while on the other hand, the police had helped people through different community police in the area which was once Maoist infested.
According to senior officers in the Home department, creation of the three new police districts will help in providing better safety and security to the residents of the area. Moreover, the existing problems in certain locations which have been identified as "disturbing zones" will be ironed out with the formation of the police districts.
It is learnt that SPs of all the newly formed police districts will be holding meetings with the Inspectors-in-Charge of all the police stations under their jurisdictions to discuss the issues and to decide which one has to be solved first. Accordingly, lists will be prepared and within a year, people of the areas will start getting the return of the Chief Minister's decision of creating three more police districts in South 24 Parganas.
