Thieves decamp with cash, valuables after spraying sleeping gas

Burglars looted valuables and cash money from a house at Uttarpara, Hooghly district. They sprayed some gas, which made the residents of the house unconscious for a long time. Police started an investigation on the basis of the complaint lodged by the residents.

Police learnt that the miscreants sprayed that gas which made the residents unconscious. Then they cut open the grille with gas-cutters. They entered the house and broke open the almirah and looted cash money and jewellery and decamped from the spot on Tuesday night.

The owner of the house, a retired officer of Central Board of Excise and Custom Narendranath Mondal, informed the investigators that they did not have any knowledge about the incident as they were in their slumber. The neighbours started to beat the doors in the morning after failing to get access to their house.

"I saw that my house was ransacked. The door of the almirah was ajar. The thieves looted valuables from our house," Mondal reportedly said to police.

Police suspected that the burglars were five-six in number. It was a pre-planned action by thieves who knew the place well. A police source said, role of some known person who helped the thieves cannot be ruled out.

They did not take much time for their operation. The miscreants even did not make noise while looting the house.

"They were very clever in their approach. They knew that the neighbours could wake up. They used some gas to make the residents unconscious," said an investigating officer.

"They must be veiled themselves for the operation. They knew that if the residents wake up, they could be caught," the officer added.

Meanwhile, the investigators started a raid after the incident. The cops believe that the miscreants could be hiding themselves somewhere in Uttarpara.
