Tamang questions Bista's failure to push for Gorkhaland in RS

Darjeeling: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (Binay Tamang faction) has thanked Biswajit Daimary, MP (Rajya Sabha), who is a leader of Bodoland People's Front, for raising the demand of the creation of both Bodoland and Gorkhaland in the Rajya Sabha, while welcoming the move to revoke Article 370. However, they have pointed fingers at Darjeeling MP Raju Bista for failing to take a similar stand.

"BJP candidate Raju Bista won by a record margin from the Darjeeling constituency. However, he has deviated from the main agenda of Gorkhaland and has been raising other issues in Parliament. Despite being a MP from Darjeeling, he has failed to raise the main and oldest demand of this region. It is time he made public the political compulsions that bind him, the main reason behind this failure," stated Binay Tamang, president, GJM.

Tamang stated that there are many issues that plague this region. "However, the public voted for him in such large numbers to actually ensure the smooth sailing of the separate state demand of Gorkhaland, the process of which has to be taken up in Parliament," said Tamang.

The GJM (Binay faction) feels that the way BJP pushed through the Jammu and Kashmir issue, they should also do the same for the creation of Gorkhaland, if they are sincere about the Gorkhas.

"Time will tell how sincere the BJP is towards the Gorkhas. However, till now their sincerity has remained in the form of assurances alone. I request MP Bista to translate assurances into action and display his party's sincerity towards the Gorkhas by sincerely pursuing the issue of the creation of Gorkhaland," demanded Tamang.
