State branch of Indian Dental Association celebrates 128th birth anniv of Dr Rafiuddin Ahmed

Kolkata: The state branch of the Indian Dental Association (IDA) in assistance with its city and suburban branch celebrated the 128th birth anniversary of Dr Rafiuddin Ahmed, the father of Indian dentistry through various programme.

The stalwart of Dental education in the country who single handedly laid down the path of dental foundation in the entire South East Asia was remembered through different programmes. A scientific seminar was held to pay tribute to the philanthropic genius.

Dr J K Singh, president of IDA's state branch, Dr Subhra Nandy, immediate past president of the IDA of the state, Dr T K Giri, principal of Dr R Ahmed Dental College and Hospital and other dignitaries attended the programme.

It may be mentioned that the state chapter of the IDA organises various programmes every year to spread dental education among people in general, holding community dental health camps, organising rallies, putting up posters and banners to spread awareness.

It has also taken a pledge to involve all IDA local branches to organise awareness campaigns by setting up kiosks, tableaus, posters, leaflets. The IDA has been conducting a comprehensive programme 'Continuing Dental Education' to disseminate knowledge among the masses.

Senior officials of the IDA stressed on the oral hygiene and the importance in preventing related diseases. Oral hygiene is a serious issue on which the IDA has been conducting campaigns.

Dr Raju Biswas, secretary of the IDA's state Branch said: "It has been a pleasure to have collaborated with the Alumni assocation and celebrated this event in the best possible manner. We paid our homage to the cemetery of the legendary Dr R Ahmed."

"On this auspicious occasion, the state branch of IDA and its 19 local branches organised free oral health camps all over Bengal to promote free oral health care checkups," Dr Biswas added.
