Rathindra Banerjee, a security guard who was performing his duty at the main gate of a residential apartment at Block A in New Alipore on late Friday night was killed after being a hit by a speeding car.
Police said that Banerjee was sitting inside the main gate of the building when a speeding car suddenly hit him. Another person who is believed to be a driver of some other car was also injured in the incident. The local people rushed the two injured victims to a nearby hospital where Banerjee was declared brought dead while the other is undergoing treatment at the hospital with serious injuries on his body.
The accused driver of the vehicle fled from the spot leaving the vehicle at the site of the accident.
After being informed, police reached the spot and started a probe in this connection. Police have seized the vehicle and are examining the CCTV footages to identify the accused driver. Police are conducting raids to nab the accused.
According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the person who was driving the car might have been drunk. Police are investigating all possible angles into the incident.
