Kolkata: An 82-year-old person in Nadia was beaten up by his elder son at Krishnanagar in Nadia on Saturday night.
Police later arrested the accused Gupi Roy on the basis of the complaint filed by his father Baidyanath Roy. Locals took Baidyanath to Shaktinagar hospital where doctors found fracture on a bone of his left hand. Locals alleged that Gupi used to torture Baidyanath since a long time. Eight years ago, he kicked Baidyanath out from his home. Following which Baidyanath was given a place to stay at a local club. He used to work as a daily labour to run his daily life. Local sources informed that eight years ago a fire broke out at their home. It was alleged that the fire caused due by a 'biri' which Baidyanath smokes. After a few months, one of his neighbour provided Baidyanath a small hut to stay. As his vision was not clear enough, Baidyanath could not work as a daily labour anymore.
To cater to his daily needs, Baidyanath started doing some small time jobs for his neighbours and in return he got money. With that small amount of money, he used to buy his food which he cooked himself. During these years, Gupi and his other sons did not bother to check on their father.
Approximately 15 days ago, he returned home. He was given a place in the yard with some sacks where a human cannot leave. On Saturday night, all of a sudden Gupi started beating up his father. Later, he was again kicked out of the house. Locals heard Baidyanath's screams and recovered him. He was taken to Shaktinagar Hospital and treated. "My elder did not allow me to enter my house. On Saturday, he asked me to transfer the land to his name. When I refused he started beating me," said Baidyanath.
