Kolkata: CMO High School at Bowbazar has been accused of serving food with a dead lizard in it to a child under the mid-day meal scheme.
The family members of the student, who was served food with a dead lizard on Tuesday, lodged a complaint with the school authorities following which, the contract with the food supplier has been suspended.
The incident triggered tension at Bowbazar area with the guardians of the school children demanding a probe into the incident.
They also expressed their concern after the incident came to light. The school authorities, however, assured that the matter will be looked into and stringent action will be taken against those who will be found responsible
for the incident.
It was learnt that Saima Parveen, a local resident, was given food like other days. She took the tiffin box containing the food to her house.
She opened the tiffin box and started having the food. Her mother later noticed a dead lizard inside the tiffin box. The matter was immediately informed to Md Mosharaf, victim's father
who was at work.
Mosharaf rushed home and took the tiffin box to the school. He was also accompanied by his daughter, who was given the food. The family members of the girl took her to a nearby doctor, who said that there was no reaction of the food in the patient yet.
The doctor, however, suggested the family members to take her to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital as she must be kept under observation for sometime.
The victim's father, Mosharaf, said the matter was taken up with the school headmaster and he was hopeful that action will be taken against those who are responsible.
The school authorities have asked the food supplier not to supply food from Wednesday.
