It seems that the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital is clinging onto the last straws of hopes to evade from the allegations levelled by Ruby Roy, the widow of Sanjay Roy and are trying all means to somehow shift the blame on the victim's family. On Monday, when Ruby visited the hospital to pay up the dues to get the Fixed Deposit (FD) papers released, the authorities tried to make her sign a document that says she was refunded Rs 4.5 lakh by the hospital.

Following this, the cops seized the document and are investigating the allegation of Ruby who was allegedly detained by the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital after she and her family were unable to pay the high fees for the treatment of a critically injured Sanjay.

Sanjay was admitted to the hospital more than two weeks ago with critical accident injuries and the hospital authorities did not allegedly allow the patient to be transferred to another hospital for the non-payment of dues. The patient, who was later released from the hospital with his relatives depositing a fixed deposit (FD) at the hospital, died after being shifted to the SSKM Hospital.

Ruby, who went to the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital on Monday to pay the amount of the dues to release the FD, that was kept by the hospital authorities as a mortgage to treat the patient, alleged that the hospital authorities tried to make her sign in a document saying that the hospital authorities had refunded money of around Rs 4.5 lakh to the victim's family. After seeing the document, the family members of the victim protested yet again.

The family members of Sanjay on Monday paid the dues of Rs 2.90 lakh to the hospital authorities and took back the FD that they had submitted to the hospital as a security for transferring the victim to the SSKM hospital.

Ruby Roy at the hospital said: "We do not want any sympathy of the hospital authorities who were responsible for the death of the patient. We have come here to take the FD papers by depositing the due amount. If Sanjay would have been released an hour ago, his life could have been saved. We want justice. Action must be taken against those who were responsible for the death."

She also said that the hospital authorities never approached them to give the money as they claimed. Some of the hospital officials, however,  claimed that they would return the money to the victim's family members on a humanitarian ground.

In another development, police on Monday have taken statements of Ruby Roy in this connection. The investigating officers also sought for the documents from the hospital authorities and will interrogate the doctors who were involved in his treatment. This may be mentioned that the state health department is carrying out a separate investigation in this regard. The senior health officials have already sought clarifications on some issues where they found irregularities.
