Biswanath Chowdhury, Revolutinary Socialist Party MLA and former state Correctional Home minister on Friday requested Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay to install an oil painting of Tridib Chaudhuri in the Assembly.
The MLA also demanded that a road in Kolkata be renamed after the late freedom fighter and his statue be installed in the city to make the young generation know about him and his sacrifice. Chaudhuri was the secretary of Sarat Chandra Bose and came in close contact with Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose as well.
Chowdhury was a veteran Parliamentarian, who notably played a major role in the Liberation Movement of Goa. He was jailed and tortured and his arrest became an international issue. Due to torture, he suffered from temporary loss of memory but later recovered.
