Romanian delegation holds talks with WBMDTC officials

A Romanian delegation visited Kolkata on February 22 to 25. They had a bilateral talk with the officials of West Bengal Mineral Development and Trading Corporation (WBMDTC) Limited for identifying areas of collaboration in the mines and mineral sectors in the state.

The state government felt that it is a good indication towards the foreign participation in industrial sector in Bengal. This was in continuation with the talk held in Bengal Global Business Summit recently. The delegation was led by Aurel Gheorghe, Chairman of Romanian National Agency for Mineral Resources (NAMR). His rank was equivalent to a deputy minister. He was accompanied by Radu Octavian Dobre, Ambassador of Romania to India.

The detail of the interactions, participated by NAMR Chairman, Ambassador of Romania to India and the chairman of WBMDTC Limited Amlan Basu agreed to collaborate with each other for extending technical support for the operationalisation of Gourangdih A, B and C Coal mining projects in Birbhum.

They also agreed on drilling, exploration and geological data compilation and interpretation, enhancement of environmental protection initiatives and augmentation of coal mining safety matters.

The University of Petrosani in Romania, through its department of mining engineering, surveying and construction has agreed to support any approach made by the NAMR for taking any collaboration initiatives.

WBMDTC Limited is contemplating setting up of an ITI level institute in a district to meet the skill gap in the mining sector in the state.

NAMR would offer technical and academic support by specialised institutes from Romania to WBMDTC Limited for setting up of the proposed Industrial Training Institute in mining discipline.
