Kolkata: Senior IPS officer Raj Kanojia, who had sought Voluntary Retirement has been allowed the same by the Governor with effect from September 30, 2018. He is presently posted as Director General of Police and Commandant General Home Guards and also Director General Coastal Security.
The IPS officer of 1982 batch has completed more than 30 years of service. "He has attained 50 years of age and is eligible to seek voluntary retirement," a senior official of the state Home department said.
Kanojia has served the state government in important posts that include ADG Criminal Investigation Department (CID), DG (Intelligence) and also as the Principal Secretary of the state Correctional Administration department. Sources in the state government said he would be appointed as Information Commissioner after his present tenure.
