Kolkata: A woman was saved due to prompt action by the Metro Railway on Thursday morning. The woman, who got stuck between the platform and the rake, was rescued by the metro staff.
According to sources, on Thursday morning, passengers were waiting for the Dum Dum-bound metro at the Rabindra Sarobar Metro station.
At 10:52 am, the metro rake arrived and motorman opened the doors for passengers boarding and deboarding.
While boarding a compartment among a crowed, a woman somehow lost control and one of her leg went into the gap between the rake and platform.
Immediately other passengers screamed and alerted the motorman. Later, motorman informed the station master about the incident.
Within minutes power to the third rail was disconnected and metro staff rescued the woman. She was taken to the station master's room and given first-aid. But no serious injury was found on her leg. Later, she went to her destination without any problem.
"The woman's leg somehow got trapped into the gap. Our staff did not take any risks and disconnected the power and rescued her," said Indrani Banerjee, Chief public Relation Officer (CPRO) of the Metro Railway.
As a result of the incident metro services were suspended for six minutes.
After rescuing the woman power was restored and services were restored from 10:58 am. According to the passengers, the woman was rescued unhurt due to the promptness of the metro railway staff members.
On the other hand some passengers raised question why the gap between the rakes and the platforms were not equal in all metro stations.
As the stoppage time is short, passengers during peak hours try to board the rakes quickly which can lead to similar incidents in future.
