Patient with mental illness dragged out of hospital

Kolkata: A mentally-challenged patient was allegedly dragged out of the Bongaon Sub-Divisional Hospital on Sunday morning by some contractual employees and ayahs.

It was also alleged that some of them poured water on the patient despite he was crying. Later, after intervention of police and the hospital authorities, the patient was allotted a bed at the hospital.

According to sources, on Sunday morning, relatives of the patients admitted in the hospital, saw a youth was being dragged by some hospital employees and ayahs.

When they tried to figure out what had happened, the accused hospital employees did not bothered to answer. The onlookers got agitated after a few ayahs poured water on the patient and dragged him out of the hospital. It allegedly that some of them kicked and assaulted him.

A few relatives of the patients admitted in the hospital rushed to the hospital authorities and narrated the whole incident. The Bongaon police station was informed about the incident.

Within a few minutes, police officers arrived at the spot and got in touch with the hospital authorities. Later, after the intervention of hospital authorities, Rogi Kalyan Samiti and the police, the patient was shifted to a bed at the hospital.

Though hospital authorities have not reacted to the incident, sources informed that an ayah has been suspended in this connection.

Question arises how a hospital employee could do mistreat a patient.

According to a source, an internal inquiry may soon be initiated in this regard. The youth was admitted few days ago by some local residents when they found him in bad shape. Till Sunday, his identity could not be established. According to sources, the police have circulated an all concerned message across the state along with description of the mentally-challenged youth and his photo to establish his identity.
