Park Street robbery: Cops suspect role of visitors of gym

Update: 2017-02-24 19:23 GMT
Suspecting that some visitors of the gym in the same building could be behind Thursday's dacoity in Park Street, the police are trying to prepare a list of people who had visited both the gym and the office of the firm that offers loans against gold by going through CCTV footages.

Four armed miscreants fled with gold worth Rs 2.88 crore from the office of Indian Infoline Finance Limited (IIFL) at Park Street on Thursday afternoon.

Police said that the miscreants had fled with all the CCTV cameras installed in the office of the IIFL at Park Street and even the hard discs. But they had left one CCTV using which the police are trying to ascertain identities of the miscreants.

The gym is situated on the top floor of the same building, the first floor of which houses the office of IIFL. Police suspect that someone, who is a regular visitor to the building, is involved with the crime as they were well aware of each and every details of the office.

Several unknown people used to visit the gym as well as the office of the firm that offers loan against gold. Since the police have come to know that many people who used to come to the gym also used to visit the firm's office, they are trying to ascertain the identities of the persons.

The police also contacted the senior officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) that probed into a similar incident that took place in Baranagar.

In December 2016, a gang of dacoits fled with gold worth Rs 8 crore from another such firm in Baranagar. Eight were arrested but 13 are still at large. The police contacted the CID to know if there is any possibility of the involvement of the same gang in Thursday's Park Street incident.
