Now, get original 'Joynagarer moya' at Sufal Bangla outlets

Kolkata: In a bid to ensure that people of the city and its suburbs get genuine Joynagarer moya, the state Agricultural Marketing department is making the same available at a number of Sufal Bangla outlets in the city and its suburbs. Joynagarer moya had achieved the GI tag for its uniqueness in 2015.

Joynagarer moya is one of the favourite desserts among the people of Bengal, especially during the winters. Apart from moya, jaggery varieties like Nolen gur and Patali gur also sell like hot cakes.

"The demand for sweets like Joynagarer moya and jaggery varieties like Nolen gur and Patali gur is extremely high. As there is a high demand, the quality is often comprised and people do not get the original ones in Bengal. Hence, we are stocking these products at Sufal Bangla outlets so that consumers get the genuine varieties," a senior official of the state Agricultural Marketing Department said.

The list of the outlets have been made available on the website of Sufal Bangla. There are 22 outlets that have already stocked the products — 14 are static and eight are mobile.

The process of stalking the products have started from the beginning of December and will be stocked for the whole winter season. It may be mentioned that this year, around 20 well-known moya makers of Joynagar-Majilpur (better known as Joynagar) and Dakshin Barasat Gram Panchayat, both in South 24-Parganas district, have been given the licence to produce Joynagarerer moya and the moyas are considered to be genuine only when made from them.

The prices at Sufal Bangla outlets have also been fixed by the government for everyone's convenience and they are moderate — Rs 200 for a 10-piece packet of moya, Rs 300 per kg of Nolen gur and Rs 200 per kg of Patali gur. The static outlets of Sufal Bangla are at Santoshpur, New Alipore, Ironside Road in Ballygunge, Graham Road in Tollygunge, Belgachia, 4 outlets in New Town, two in Salt Lake and one each at Mandirtala, Baruipur and Chinsurah. The mobile ones are at Karunamoyee, Tollygunge, Lake Gardens, Ajoynagar on EM Bypass, two at Tangra, AJ Block in Salt Lake, Kali Park in Rajarhat and one in New Town.
