Taking a unique initiative to make people aware of the steps necessary to avoid water-borne and faecal-borne diseases, the district administration of North Dinajpur has introduced an audio-visual system to easily communicate with people under the Mission Nirmal Bangla.
Ayesha Rani Ahmed, District Magistrate of North Dinajpur, said the step has been taken to easily communicate the do's and dont's to the common people. A tableau has been prepared and it contains a huge screen on which people can watch the video which was prepared to show people the steps they should take to avoid spread of water-borne and faecal-borne diseases.

The tableau will be moving around the villages and stop at the places wherever its driver finds a gathering of some people. After watching the video, the people will easily understand how open defecation creates health hazards and at the same time, they will also urge the people not to throw wastages wherever they want. The people, who will watch the video, will also be made aware about the ill effects of not having safe drinking water. They will also come to know about the diseases with which one may get affected with after having unsafe drinking water.

It may be mentioned that the state government has taken a major step to ensure that each and every district becomes Open Defecation Free by the end of 2019. Nadia was the first district in the country to be declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) district. Hooghly and North 24-Parganas districts also followed suit.

While creating the awareness programme, people were also told about the necessity of having a toilet in their house. They will also be told during the campaign that how easy it is in today's time to construct a toilet in their houses.
