Bridge and Roof Company employees agitate against Centre's decision to sell CPSU

The employees of Bridge and Roof Co, a Bengal based profit making CPSU under the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises organised a mass agitation at Kankaria Centre, Russel Street against the decision of the Centre to sell off this 97-year-old profit making organisation through 100 per cent disinvestment.

The catastrophe of such a decision by the Centre has serious impact on the livelihood of thousands of families who are connected to this organisation.

Apart from its 2,200 employees, there are around 15,000 indirect workmen who are deployed in company's 200 projects sites all over India. It is still a mystery to every employee of the organisation that under what parameters and compulsion, this profit making PSU has been considered to be sold off through 100% disinvestment.

The company on nomination basis are executing jobs worth of crores of Central and state govt and any change in the composition may lead to termination of such contracts.

The company is also executing huge jobs of Central Public Sectors like Oil and Gas, Power Plants, Ports & Steel plants all over India in addition to various State Govt. Projects especially in East & various strategic locations in the North-east region including Railway linking Rural Development, PMGSY Road work, Bridges etc to link remote villages.

The Company is also executing contracts on Social Infrastructure development like low cost housing for Economically Weaker Sections and works with regards to various Disaster Management of various state governments.

The Company is also carrying out Infrastructural development work in North Eastern Regions mainly Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim & Assam on behalf of the Central Ministries.  Disinvestment will result in rescinding of works & consequent implication on development of North-Eastern Region.
