Two days after a Class X student was raped and murdered at Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas, another student of Class III had been subjected to physical abuse by the owner of a saw mill on Wednesday.
The incident had triggered tension in the locality after the incident came to light. Police have already arrested the accused in this connection so far.
The local residents of Gangajoara area of Sonarpur ransacked the house and the saw mill of the accused who has been absconding since the incident occurred on Tuesday.
The situation turned violent when hundreds of local people congregated outside the house of the victim. When they found that the accused had fled the house, the irate mob went on a rampage ransacking a portion of the house. Some other people demonstrated in front of the saw mill. They damaged a portion of the saw mill as well.
After being informed, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The local people alleged that the accused, Bhim Sharma, the owner of a local saw mill lured the victim girl with the promise of some food and took her to his house.
It was alleged that the accused molested the girl inside his room. The girl, however, managed to free herself from the clutches of the accused and fled the house.
The matter came to light after she informed her family members about the incident. The local residents lifted the demonstration after the police assured them that prompt action would be taken against the accused.
Police are conducting a search to nab the accused. During interrogation the accused confessed his crime. It may be mentioned that a similar agitation took place at Lenin Nagar of Sonarpur on Tuesday after a Class X girl was raped and murdered by a local youth. Police have already arrested the accused in this incident.
