Police arrested a person on charge of giving death threat to his elderly landlord at Salt Lake on Monday.
The landlord, a 70-year-old woman, was threatened several times by the accused Suresh Gupta. He pressurised her to vacate the house immediately, otherwise, she will be killed.

On the basis of the complaint lodged by landlord Protima Chowdhury, the Bidhannagar City Police has arrested Gupta.
The accused was levelled with the charges of causing hurt to extort property, extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt, extortion and criminal intimidation.

The investigators are also looking for some other people involved in the case.

The investigators learnt that the problems began from September last year when the elderly woman protested against a construction work in the ground floor of her house. Gupta, being tenant, started construction work at his residence without discussing the matter with
his landowner.

The landlord, a widow, asked Gupta regarding the construction he was doing without her permission. Gupta, unperturbed, claimed that he would be the future owner of the house. Protima Chowdhury told the police that he said, "Your days are numbered. I will be the sole owner of the house. It will be my house. Now you may go."

The landlord further told the police that Gupta also brought with him another man, Kamal Gupta on the day of Saraswati Puja and
he threatened her saying, "Everyone knows me in this locality.

Either you withdraw the complaint or face consequences."However, the woman heaved a sigh of relief after police arrested the accused tenant. "I could not sleep. I was so scared that I could not even take my food. I am looking for the judicial process," she said.
