Kolkata Police once again sent a letter to suspended assistant director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Manoj Kumar, summoning him for interrogation in connection with his alleged involvement in the hawala racket along with Subhra Kundu, the estranged wife of Rose Valley Group Chief Gautam Kundu.
The development comes at a time when senior officers of the city police's detective department and the Special Task Force interrogated Subhra for around two hours late Sunday night at her apartment in Kolkata's South City area.
Sources in Lalbazar said that the police have got specific information from Subhra during her interrogation on Sunday night which needs to be verified from Kumar. The police also seized some documents from Subhra's residence on Sunday night.
Sunday was the fourth time when city police officers went to Subhra's residence to interrogate her, after the video footages in which she and Manoj were caught became public.
The city police had summoned Kumar on Friday, but he failed to turn up. On Friday, Kumar went to ED office, where he was questioned by three senior officers of the central enforcement agency. It was learnt that he went to his office to get permission to go to the headquarters of the Kolkata Police at Lalbazar. However, he could not go to Lalbazar as he had to face questions from his own seniors.
It is learnt that the letter to summon Kumar again would be send to him soon.
A police officer said: "It is quite crucial to question him for the sake of the investigation and we expect that he will cooperate with us to probe in to the case."
Sources said that a new questionnaire has been prepared to interrogate Kumar. If needed, he would also be questioned in front of Subhra. It may be mentioned that on Friday ED officers interrogated Subhra in front of Kumar. It was done to verify Kumar's statement with that of Subhra's.
