Chaos ensues as miscreants open fire in Sundarpur area

Tension ran high at Sundarpur area under Gopalnagar police station in North 24 Parganas after some unidentified miscreants opened fire at the local residents who came out in support of a local boy who was allegedly heckled by the miscreants.

A police picket has been set up at the village as there was tension among the villagers after Wednesday's incident. The local people said that on Wednesday night, some youth were boozing at Dakshin Sundarpur area when a local youth identified as Anup Roy was passing through the area while talking over mobile phone. The accused hurled abusive languages at the victim. When he protested, the miscreants pounced on him and beat him up. After hearing the screaming of the youth the local people rushed to his rescue. They caught one of the accused while others fled the spot. Few minutes after the incident, the accused along with many others returned back to the place brandishing arms. The miscreants started open firing at the local people who fled the spot. The residents, however, escaped a bullet injury.

After being informed, a huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot to control the situation. A police picket has also been set up in the village. The local people alleged that the area has often been frequented by the miscreants who perform antisocial activities in the area. Police do not take action against the accused despite of repeated complaints. They also alleged that there was no police vigil in the area after the sun down despite of the repeated pleas.

After starting an investigation in this regard the police have arrested two persons for their alleged involvement in the incident. They are Noor Alam and Safikul Molla. Police came to know that they were involved in firing. Raids are being conducted to nab the other culprits.
