Villagers blocked GT Road on Monday morning alleging that they were asked to get their Aadhaar cards made by the district administration but no officers turned up to for the process.
The blockade near Pandua Hospital by the infuriated villagers continued till 12 pm. Later, police and the district administration convinced them to withdraw the blockade. A huge traffic jam was seen on the GT Road because of the incident.
The villagers had been told by the district administration that Aadhaar cards will be made on Monday morning. While the villagers turned up in front of the Pandya Panchayat Office on Monday, no officers were seen there.
"The villagers became unruly after the incident. However we managed to control the mob," said a police officer.
An employee of the BDO office said, that they could perform the process because of some technical problem.
"I came with my family. I have two little children. They are still not registered in Aadhaar. They told us that new cards will be issued here but after standing in the line from 4 am in the morning, they said it will not happen today (Monday)," alleged a villager.
