The residents of Salt Lake were visibly delighted at 'Pushpa Mela' (flower show) on Sunday. This flower show popular at Salt Lake, has been organised by the Bidhannagar Horticulture Society for years. This year, the spectators came from beyond the boundaries of Salt Lake. They took photographs of flowers, fruits and even posed for selfies with them.
The venue, AMP Vaisakhi, a joint venture between Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and AMP Universal, has been unchanged this year as well. "It is truly an example of some amazing flowering arrangements. I along with my husband and child witnessed various flowering plants, seasonal flowers, evergreen plants. It is an awesome experience," said a woman at the venue.
Cacti, the member of the plant family Cactaceae and some other succulents were displayed in show, which drew attention of the spectators. The flower show bought together all the residents from various blocks of Salt Lake.
"We have been running this show for the last twenty years. Most of our members have crossed 70 years. But the spirit is still alive," said S K Maity, one of the organiser. Chairperson of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, Krishna Chakraborty earlier inaugurated the flower show. Sunday, the day of conclusion, witnessed many people turning out for the show.
"Various types of petunia, marigold, clianthus were exhibited in the show. Different types of cacti, succulents, foliage plants, vegetable and fruit plants were also exhibited. You can bottle gourds grown in pots, which has drawn the attraction of visitors," Maity added.
In modern houses, the growing herbs in rooftops and balcony are common. Those herbs are visually attractive. The participants of the show brought such plants from their house as well along with flowers in winter. But National Dairy development Board won was judged best among the other participants for using organic fertilisers.
