Joyprakash Majumder remanded to 14-day judicial custody

Joyprakash Majumder, the state vice president of BJP, has been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days after being produced before the Bidhannagar Court on Saturday.

Majumder was arrested on January 14 on alleged charges of taking money from the students, who appeared in the Teacher's Eligibility Test and School Service Commission.

He was in the custody of the police till date. The state's counsel had opposed the bail plea of Majumder's counsel and submitted before the court that he is an "influential" person and the investigation would get affected if he gets bail.

The state's counsel submitted that evidences may get tampered if he gets the bail. The court sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

It may be mentioned that CBI also used to claim an arrested person to be "influential" one to oppose the bail plea. The CBI counsels had submitted the same to oppose bail pleas of the former Transport minister Madan Mitra.
