Alleging "non-cooperation" from the Jalpaiguri District Administration, the two member team from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) investigating the alleged child trafficking and illegal adoption case returned to Delhi.
The two member team comprising of Priyank Kanungo and Jaswant Jain had arrived at Jalpaiguri on Tuesday to investigate the matter. They are scheduled to hand over their report to the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development.
"We had asked documents relating to 13 issues in connection to this case. The district administration failed to provide a single document. However we know how to get these documents. If required we will seek legal recourse. We could even call the district administration authorities, the CID, police authorities to Delhi for questioning" stated Kanungo.
Jain questioned whether there is an ulterior motive behind this "non-cooperation."
The two member team alleged of many loose ends. "We wanted information on how many children were provided Legal Free for Adoption certificates by the Jalpaiguri Child Welfare Committee from 2014 till 5th March 2017? How many children were handed out for adoption by the present CWC Jalpaiguri. Who all had been nominated as adhoc CWC members by the district administration before the present committee took over in 2015? Who had ordered for the formation of the adhoc CWC committee? Till now why had the concerned authorities including the district administration fail to find out the lapses of the Homes being run by Chandana Chakraborty?" stated Kanungo.
