Missing chit fund agent's body found near railway station

After remaining missing for the past three days, the body of a chit fund agent was found near a railway station in Howrah on Thursday morning.

The family members of the victim alleged that he was murdered by the investors who had given money to the chit fund in various schemes through the victim. They demanded stern action against the accused who were involved in the incident.

Local people found the body of the victim, Sukumar Das lying near the Nalpur railway station. The incident had triggered tension in the area. After being informed, the police reached the spot and recovered the body. There were several injury marks on various parts of his body.

Police said that Das, a resident of Salkia in Howrah used to work as an agent of a chit fund company. Many of the local people had invested money through Das. It was alleged that the victim had failed to repay money to some of the investors after the maturity of their schemes. A few days ago, some of the investors staged demonstration in front of his house and threatened him with dire consequences if their amount was not paid. The victim's family members also alleged that some members of a local club dragged him from the house to the club and threatened him at gun point. The victim was under tremendous mental depression following such incidents.

The family members of Das alleged that the victim was murdered. He was allegedly abducted three days ago and was later killed. They said that the investors might have killed the victim as he failed to pay them the money back. Police are yet to ascertain if it was an incident of murder or if he had committed suicide.

Police started a detailed investigation in this regard. According to the preliminary investigation, police are not ruling out the possibility of murder. The body has been sent for the post-mortem examination.
