Miscreants thrash, loot elderly woman

 Yet in another incident, an elderly woman in the city became a soft target for the miscreants.

Police said that a gang of four miscreants entered into the house of an elderly woman at Beliaghata and looted valuables from the house. They beat up the woman during the attempt to loot valuables. Miscreants entered into the house situated on the Kavi Sukanta Sarani of Beliaghata when the victim, an 80-year-old woman, Latika Mitra was alone in her house.

Police said that her son Tuhin Mitra, a railway employee was away from home when the incident occurred. The miscreants stormed into her room situated on the first floor of a building. After entering the house, they threatened the woman of dire consequences if she did not hand over the keys of the almirah and demanded money from the woman. When she told the robbers that she does not have any money, the accused beat her up.

The miscreants also snatched gold bangles which she was wearing. They also looted some mobile phones from the house. The incident occurred on Thursday noon.

On his return, Tuhin Mitra found that his mother was lying on the bed with injuries on various parts of her body. She was taken to BR Singh Hospital for treatment where she is undergoing treatment. Tuhin Mitra later lodged a complaint in the police station. On the basis of the complaint, police have started a detailed investigation. They are yet to arrest the accused.

Police suspect that the accused had prior knowledge that the woman would be alone in the house and they decided to carry out the crime during noon. Police said that the accused already knew the family. Police are also interrogating the domestic helps in this connection.
