A Class VIII girl was allegedly gang-raped by some of her friends at Belda in West Midnapore on Wednesday night.

Police said that one of the accused came to her house in the evening on Wednesday and asked her to come along with him to his house as some more friends had assembled there.

The victim was told that some girls, who study in her class, also came there to have food together as one of them had a birthday on Wednesday.

But she found no one there apart from the three accused youth when she went to the house. She was initially not ready to wait even for a second inside the house.

But they somehow managed to convince her to stay there for some more minutes and offered her spiked cold drinks.

She fell unconscious after having the cold drinks. The youth allegedly raped her when she fell unconscious.

They took the girl out of the house in the unconscious state at night and dumped her in a bush on a village road.

As the girl didn't return even at late night, her parents initiated a search for her. They couldn't find her and approached the police.

Finally at around 2 am on Thursday, some local people found her lying in the bush.

They took her to a local health care unit. She was released after first aid and taken home.

Her parents lodged a complaint with the police against the three youths in the wee hours in Thursday.

Police went to the house of the accused to take them in their custody on the basis of the complaint lodged by the victim's parents.

But the police did not find them as they had fled realising that the police would raid their house at any time.
