Metro services shut down after man jumps in front of rake

Kolkata: Metro services were suspended for an hour on Tuesday evening, after an unknown person committed suicide by jumping in front of a rake at Rabindra Sadan station.

According to sources, on Tuesday at around 5:29 pm, when a Kavi Subhas bound rake was about to enter the platform, a middle-aged man jumped in front of the rake. Immediately, all operations were suspended. The rake was evacuated and driven backwards in order to recover the body.

Meanwhile, truncated services were on between Central to Noapara and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Kavi Subhas stations.

As the incident happened during peak hours, a huge number of daily commuters had to face difficulties in reaching their destinations. After removing the body from the track, normal Metro services resumed from 6:31 pm. Till Tuesday night, the identity of the deceased could not be established.
